5/21/2023 0 Comments Rocket ship galileoWhether or not the spacecraft is sent to other celestial objects either for scientific studies and/or a gravity assist using a slingshot flight maneuver. However, just as it is here on Earth, travel time highly depends on the route you take.Īs discussed in our previous article on how long it would take to get to Saturn, here are typically four factors when considering a more precise flight duration to any astronomical object: The average distance between Earth and Jupiter is 484 million miles (778 million kilometers) from Earth ranging from 365 million miles (588 million kilometers) at their closest points up to 601 million miles (968 million km) away at their farthest points. When calculating travel time you use two basic measurements: the distance and the speed of the vehicle.

That year, German chancellor Otto von Bismarck organised the Berlin Conference, where 14 of the world's most powerful countries gathered to discuss the future of Africa. Mr Faloyin, who was born in Chicago, raised in Nigeria and now lives in London, says to understand Africa's complex present, you have to rewind to 1884. That's around a quarter of all the countries on Earth. "Few entities have been forced through field of distorted reality as many times as Africa … A region that is treated and spoken of as if it were a single country, devoid of nuance and cursed to be forever plagued by deprivation," he writes.Īnd as for the answer: Africa, the continent of 1.4 billion people who speak more than 2,000 languages, has 54 countries. Stereotypes of Africa and Africans persist, but Dipo Faloyin is trying to change this through his writing. In some ways, I’m inclined to agree, but not for the same reasons. As what it is advertised to be a Young Adult Fairy Tale romance it generally delivers well- though it must be admitted that some parts seemed corny or else the characters and decisions just seemed silly to the point of being almost painful for the audience, simply because they fell for ploys that were so glaringly obvious.Īs with the others the setting is Medieval, this time the second decade of the 15th century (1400s), yet another reviewer remarked that the setting did not seem as authentic as it did in the others. I decided to read this before Mrs Dickerson’s latest book The Princess Spy to ‘catch up’- although her titles are really standalone books and you don’t need to know what happened in one to follow the other. 5/21/2023 0 Comments The Treatment by Suzanne YoungThe key to unlocking their past lies with the Treatment-a pill that can bring back forgotten memories, but at a high cost. When Alvar was a teenager in World War II Sweden, he dreamed of being in a real jazz band. The old man playing her favorite song is Alvar. When Steffi hears her favorite jazz song playing through an open window of a retirement home on her walk home from school, she decides to go in and introduce herself. The only way she escapes is through her music-especially jazz music. She's never fit in with any of the groups at school, and she's viciously teased by the other girls in her class. Sara Lovestam's Wonderful Feels Like This is "a coming-of-age tale of a young artist and is as soulful as it is triumphant" ( SLJ) that celebrates being a little bit odd, finding your people, and the power of music to connect usįor Steffi, going to school everyday is an exercise in survival. Most of the ones that I have read focus on the Gods, the monsters, the Olympians. The ones that I have read, however, have not been like this one at all. I usually stick to contemporary romance but, with my love of retellings of greek mythology, I know that I need to expand my reading material. I don\’t read a crazy amount of retellings even though I really enjoy them. It\’s refreshing to not be able to figure it out half way through or even chapter by chapter. I never know what\’s going to happen next and I absolutely love that. It\’s not often that a book is insanely unpredictable but this one is. There are so many twists and turns and it\’s not very easy to figure out, which is something that really gets my attention. I don\’t know why I keep doing this to myself because the series is absolutely AMAZING. And I just not got around to reading the second book in the series. I didn\’t read the book until earlier this year. I had been wanting to read it since 2011 but didn\’t actually buy it until 2012 or 2013. I literally put off reading the first book in the series, Starcrossed, for years. Do you ever have a series or a book that, for whatever reason, you always put off reading? For days, months, sometimes even years? Well, this series happens to be one of those for me. 5/21/2023 0 Comments First person singular storiesMurakami’s first translated novel to be distributed in the U.S., A Wild Sheep Chase, hit our shores in 1989. The voice of his hapless Everyman - often young, awkward, and adrift within Murakami’s signature surrealist universe - is a steady narrative presence. Nonetheless, my sense is that First Person Singular is not only the title of this story collection it appears also to be his point of view of choice throughout both his short and long fiction. I have dipped but a figurative toe in the comprehensive ocean of Haruki Murakami’s literary œuvre, a body of work that spans four decades and includes 14 novels and oodles of stories. 5/21/2023 0 Comments Kornher staceHer other books include the Andre Norton Award finalist ARCHIVIST WASP (Small Beer Press/Big Mouth House, 2015) and its sequel LATCHKEY (Mythic Delirium, 2018), which are about a far-future postapocalyptic ghosthunter, the ghost of a near-future supersoldier, and their adventures in the underworld. Her two most recent books are the adult SF cyberpunk dystopian thriller FIREBREAK (Simon & Schuster/Gallery/Saga, 2021) and her middle-grade debut JILLIAN VS. You can find her on Twitter where she is probably semicoherently yelling about board games, video games, hiking, aromantic representation, good books she's read recently, or her cat. 5/20/2023 0 Comments A Kind of Truth by Lane HayesMy job is to do some basic repairs, so he can write in peace.
